Solar Evaporation Ponds

Solar ponds have a perimeter boundary covering over 12 km2 and they provide an area of exposure to the raw well field brine to that solar energy can be utilized to promote water evaporation from the brine surface.

The ponds serve three functions, namely:

Production of carbonate rich brine, T-brine, which is the feedstock for soda ash plant
Production of salt (Sodium Chloride) as low in impurities as possible, for feeding the salt plant
Provision of cooling brine to various heat loads in the process plant.
